THE SON OF GOD
“ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begottenSon that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
The Scripture for today’s sermon is lifted from John
3:16., This verse is often viewed as the most frequently
cited verse in the New Testament.  It is often the first
Bible learned, memorized and recited by young children.
It conveys indispensable facts regarding God, Jesus,
humanity, and the world to come. This verse, further, will
be used to anchor our 2018 Vacation Bible School that
encompasses several facts about Jesus in the life of the
believer. The sermon has been structured under the subject
– God’s Son.  It will include the following dimensions,
namely: The need for a Redeemer, Prophecies of the
Redeemer, Advent of the Redeemer, Work of the
Redeemer, and the role of the Redeemer at the end of time.
“The planet’s major religions each have their own beliefs
about the end of the world, the triumph of good over evil and
Judgment Day.
Admittedly, the subject – God’s Son – requires more time
to present a comprehensive lecture than allocated for a
sermon, even for an hour. Hence to keep the congregation
inside and attention focused, this sermon will be a synopsis
of the life and service of God’s Son.
As a point of departure, it must be acknowledged that
the planet earth has innumerable inhabitants. They vary by
many criteria, one of which is essential for this sermon and
it is religion. Since this presentation is not a thesis nor
dissertation, no attempt will be made to identify all of the
religions. Instead, a decision was made to identify just one
of them which is Judeo Christian.  The Sacred Book of
this religion is known as the Holy Bible. It is viewed at God’s
message to humankind. One of those Divine Messages has
been selected to anchor the sermon for today. It is found
in John 3:16.  In that verse, Saint John states that “God so
loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that
whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have
everlasting life.”  While this verse refers to God’ gift, it does
not offer prove that Jesus is God’s gift to humankind. Butthereis good news, it is found in Matthew 3:17. Therein in the
certification that Jesus is the Son of God. “…This is my
beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” Hence, the
subject God’ Son is both timely and relevant. Accordingly,
the pertinent question becomes, ‘Why was it necessary for
God to sent his Son into the world? Beloved, the reasons
can be reduced to three realities, namely: Original Sin,
human infidelity, and Divine love. The Original Sin was
committed Eve and Adam; it was an act contrary to the
law of God and they were expelled from the Garden of
Eden. The human infidelity was widespread probably
the most cited on involved King David and his affair with
the married Bathsheba. Lastly, the Divine Love was
reflected in the commitment of Jesus’ earthly ministry
as reflected in the verse, “While we were yet sinners, Christ
died for us according to the Scripture.” ( Rom. 5:8 ).
In closing beloved, let us never forget the textual base
of this sermon entitled, GOD’SON. That reference is to John
3:16 wherein we read the glorious news that God so loved
the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoso
ever believeth in his shall not perish, but have everlasting life.

AMEN.
